Anchor Marine Ltd was started in 1996 by Jim and Barb Manges. Jim started in the marine business in 1951 as a dock boy with Erie Marine Supply, formally Dearbeck & Christenson. In 1955 moved to Great Lakes Marine Sales where he worked in purchasing and sales until 1961. He was then recruited into R.D. McAllister and Son for Parts and accessories manager, worked into boat sales and management, and by 1968 was Executive vice president. After the passing of R.D. McAllister in 1978, Jim was elected as President. He stayed in that capacity until, Due to varying circumstances, R.D. McAllister and Son was disbanded and the port authority purchased the property in 1995.
Jim was not ready to retire and decided to start Anchor Marine Ltd along with Mike Cronquest as service manager. The combined experience of the two was greater than any other facility in Erie. Mike's certifications with Mercruiser and OMC were instrumental to the start of Anchor Marine Ltd and to the continued success today.
In 1998 Terry Kremer started learning and working with the team. He retired from the army flying cobra helicopters and served in the first Gulf war. Over the years with Anchor Marine Ltd he has completed training as a American Boat Builders and Repairers Association (ABBRA) certified fiberglass technician, PPG certified paint and repair specialist, Mercruiser sterndrive certified technician, and Raymarine certified installer and repairer.
His experience in the military, on the job training with service manager Mike Cronquist, and training completed with Anchor Marine make him a great addition to the team.
